My Bag & I

We’ve all heard of the saying ‘diamonds are a girl’s best friend’, but to me I think that our real inanimate best friends are our purses. We carry them everywhere we go, and in it they store everything from lifesaving essentials to bits and bobs that represent who we are as a person.

Monochromatic Pairings

Lately I’ve been obsessing with wearing a completed ‘set’ outfit or at least a closely matched outfit since, unfortunately (and lets be real here), who is able to afford a dozen of paired outfits which you can only really get away with wearing at least twice before you begin to look like a cartoon character by wearing the exact same MATCHED outfit every single day. I like to describe my style as minimalistic and chic with a burst of extravagance whether it be a funky pair of sneakers, a pop of colour on the lips or a rad (fake) septum piercing. So ‘set’ outfits definitely are in my agenda on how to style them to suit any occasion. Style 1. S&S (Sophisticated & Sexy) This outfit from Kookai is paired perfectly with its warm neutral tones of off whites and warm greys. One of my go-to outfits for any night-time event whether it be a formal dinner even (layered with an oversized coat or blazer) or a fun girl’s night out clubbing. Because of its …

Cheat Guide To Lose Weight (And live a healthier YOU)

Summer is slowly returning as the disastrous cold winds make way for sunshine, warmth and clear skies hitting the streets of Sydney. As it’s officially the final month of Winter (August), it leaves very little time to get our summer bodies back into shape from the past 3 or so months from binge eating next to the heater watching re-runs of Modern family because it was too cold to move anything except your mouth. I’m not the healthiest person in the world, and my chronic disease of ‘procrastination’ just makes me getting up and moving THAT much harder. Also, I have the biggest sweet tooth and I can never say no to chocolates, especially chocolate chip cookies from Coles that are especially gooey and chewy ^_^ However, my ultimate motivation to get lean and mean was the fact that my friends and I are going to stereo sonic in November; a music festival that showcases the greatest DJ’s and remixes (DJ SNAKE, Peking Duk and Major Lazer just to name a few). My proudest accomplishment …

A Picture Tells A Thousand Words.

People say that our life is but a mere interpretation, a huddle of our thoughts, emotions and stories melded into one. The saying ‘a picture tells a thousand words’ revealing how although we are all human, made of the same skin, flesh and bones living on this same Earth, our experiences are individually, drastically different. It’s kind of like art. How each viewer, staring at the exact same painting, visual or template will gather their own interpretation of what that ‘art’ is through their assortment of jumbled up personal experiences and viewpoints. I’m not exactly an ‘artsy’ person. I cannot and I really mean it when i say that I cannot draw to save the life of me (and the whole human race if ever I was presented in that dilemma). However, when I visited the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney yesterday, it was overall a lovely experience and I soaked in as much as I could. There were 2 levels of artwork pieces sprawled throughout, and the main theme centering the art space …

If travelling were free, you’d probably never see me again

I was scrolling down Tumblr the other day and came across a few quotes consecutively in a row about travelling, and whilst reading them, sparked my once devoted yearning for adventuring and exploring new countries and cities bursting with cultures and hidden stories. I’m half Chinese (from my mums side), quarter German and quarter Polish (dads side) and was born in Australia and since I was 3, my fondness with travelling began on aeroplane rides when we would visit my grandparents and family members in Shanghai, China. My love and fascination with the Chinese culture intrigued me as a young child. It was like travelling to another universe because everything was so different, so exotic and so exciting. Starting from the language where my mum’s side of the family would talk in Shanghai-nese to each other; a colloquial exchange of dialogue that only residents in Shanghai would understand, hearing it and understanding the basic concepts wrapped me in warmth of familiarity and homeliness. The Chinese cuisine was also my favourite, from pickled fruits to chicken …

When Marnie Was There

Now that Winter is here in Australia it gives the perfect excuse (well for me anyhow) to snuggle up and do what I do best in bed; watch films. Film watching to me isn’t JUST a lazy past time, or an excuse when you’re procrastinating from exams. It’s actually a form of art (hear me out before you think I’m completely bonkers) in which you learn a lot and gain insights into human behaviour through characters, their journeys, transformations and how they interact with others and themselves. You learn the art of rhetoric in dialogue of different eras and of the human psyche. And of course, the storyline or plot of any film will interest you, inspire and maybe even educate you. This sounds pretty deep and not as I initially intended it to be, but what I’m trying to say is that well, i think that film watching isn’t entirely a waste of time and effort and if you learn to appreciate it, there’s actually a lot you can benefit from. This month I …

Winter Must-Haves 2015

Winter has officially arrived in the land down under… And i’m already missing Summer ='( We are now halfway through with the year which is totally so surprising as reflecting on 2015 so far, it felt like last week where I was just beginning the first semester of uni. I was born in January so my disdain for the colder months of the year can be partly blamed towards me being a Summer baby. My tan is slowly but surely disappearing, the only physical remnants I have of the lovely adventuresĀ I had over the course of this Summer. Speaking of disappearing, my summer body I’ve attained has also decided to leave upon the arrival of Winter. However, despite having to wear layers of clothing and suffering the beauty of looking like Rudolph everytime I go out, I must admit, winter does come with cute clothes and trends. So here we have it, my current favourite winter essential and faves of 2015. 1. Oversized Coat This is pretty much as crucial as wearing sunscreen for the …

Vivid Sydney 2015

So last Friday my boyfriend and I headed to Vivid Sydney 2015 and all in all, it was simply breathtaking. We didn’t go to the main attraction at Circular Quay just because we knew that it would be brimming with people, but the real reason (and more importantly) was that we were too lazy to walk all the way to the other-side of the city since we were already 5 mins away from Darling Harbour. As soon as we arrived at the top of the stairs descending down the Harbour we were immediately taken aback. The wharf was transformed with these huge water features in the centre of the wharf that shone with brightly coloured lights that illuminated the water fountains, making it appear to be dancing to the rhythm of the music. In the background, stood the Novo Hotel and it too was ornamented with lights that dazzled to the beat of the music, an array of light and sound explosion. Although the night was windy, we were well prepared with our oversized coats …

Septum Jewellery Taking A Stand

I’m normally not one to be infatuated with piercings, tattoos or any shenanigans related to those sorts, but lately, Ive come across a lot of the whole septum piercing trend on social media, and kinda became obsessed… I must admit, when I first familiarised myself with septum piercings in the beginning of the year, i didn’t think much of it other than a silly trend that would soon disappear into the cyber world. However, this past month, i suddenly realised how effortlessly ‘cool’ and ‘edgy’ it looks. They’re the perfect accessory that adds that dimension of the mysterious girl you see on the bus, or the effortlessly chic girl in high school who you simultaneously daunted yet captivated by. Personally, i believe that anyone can pull this off, no matter what face shape, skin colour, or other physical feature you believe won’t match it…. BUT (in my personal opinion) you do need to have some degree of makeup. Just throwing it on and walking out the door will inadvertently make it seem like you a …

So i have returned

So I have returned… No I was not eaten alive by a swarm of bees, I just very guiltily neglected this blog for a while… ^_^ The last time I wrote was just before the mid semester break and now i am back and the semester is just about finished with one more class to go and 2 assignments to submit in 2 weeks :—) I VOW to add more effort into my blog and although i can make up excuses that i was preoccupied with uni, my job, my internship and balancing my social life (not really considering the only person i saw really was my bf), the bottom line is, i just wasn’t feeling motivated/inspired as to what to post. But after watching this interview of these two sisters who are self-employed fashionistas from Dubai, and listening to their work ethic and their success stories and how much luxury and opportunity they received as a result of their passion and consistency really was the kick that i so desperately needed. These past few …
